CBS Employees Prepare Homeless Children for School

2nd Annual Back-To-School Celebration

On Thursday evening, September 1, 2011, CBS Television Distribution hosted a back-to-school celebration for the children in residence at Upward Bound House just in time for school!

The celebration took place at Upward Bound House's Family Shelter facility. CBS employees distributed more than 60 donated back packs filled with essential school supplies for the upcoming school year.

This is the second year that CBS Television Distribution has helped homeless children get ready for the new school year with a backpack drive at Upward Bound House.

"School can be a very difficult place to go when you are homeless," said David Snow, Executive Director of Upward Bound House.  "Like the work we do here at Upward Bound House, CBS Television Distribution and its employees are giving these kids the resources - and inspiration -to succeed in school and beyond."

John Nogawski, president of CBS Television Distribution (CTD) stated, "The children in residence at Upward Bound have the same needs all children have as they get ready for a new school year; we are happy to fulfill a small part of those needs. This is the second year that CTD has enthusiastically embraced the children, giving of their time, talents and donations, to help Upward Bound and its younger residents. It is especially gratifying to see the smiles on the kids' faces when they get to choose their backpacks and take a look inside for the first time. Education is the biggest leg up anyone can have and we hope the backpacks and supplies help these kids get a fresh start in the new school year. "

Special guests include 94.7 The WAVE radio host Pat Prescott, Culver City Mayor Michael O'Leary, and LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. Families enjoyed a delicious dinner generously donated by Pitfire Pizza, Google, and Rockenwagner Bakery.
